BTEC Level 2 in Health and Social Care

WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?
During this vocational course you will gain a broad knowledge and understanding of Health and Social Care services, and the factors which affect health and well being. At the end of the course you can consider a very large range of employment opportunities in Health and Care settings, including Early Years Care, Social Care and Health, or progress onto an advanced level qualification.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?
You will study a variety of units that provide a broad understanding of Health Care, Social Care and Early Years service providers. You will be able to apply your knowledge in realistic and practical ways including case studies, small research projects and practical tasks.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
You will study 8 units which will be compiled to produce a portfolio of work for assessment. There are no examinations.

WHAT SKILLS AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED?
A good standard of literacy and numeracy and 4 GCSEs at D – G grades or equivalent. You will need to be able to work to deadlines to complete the assignments set. You will be taught in a number of different ways which will include; Lectures, Group work, Presentations, Work experiences/visits and Portfolio work.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
The qualification is recognised by employers and could lead to employment in the care sector, for example a Care Assistant in a day care centre or residential care home etc. You could also gain entry onto a Level 3 qualification.

PRIESTLEY EXTRA
You will have a range of visits organised for you which relate to your studies. We visit many hospital and care providers to extend your learning. Opportunities to take part in residential trips both in this country and abroad will also be available, which will develop team working skills and provide first hand experiences of health care in diverse settings. We also encourage you to take part in the arranged First Aid and Sign Language programmes, viewing these as valuable additional skills that will support you into employment or further learning.
