BTEC Level 3 in Interactive Media and Photography

WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?
The BTEC Extended Diploma in Interactive Media and Photography is an Art and Design course aimed at students who are interested in exploring digital and new media technology as well as traditional materials and techniques.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?
You will study a whole range of subjects such as Photography, both digital and darkroom; Animation; Internet/Game content design; Traditional Imaging such as illustration and printmaking and Digital imagery including vector graphics. In the second year students also study film and moving image. The emphasis of the course is for students to become independent practitioners of their chosen pathway.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED
There are no formal examinations. The coursework produced for all the units is internally assessed through assignments set and marked by your tutors. The Final Major Project will allow you to produce an independent, self set outcome which is externally verified.

WHAT SKILLS AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED?
A GCSE in an Art and Design related subject at grade C or above, or a portfolio of work, alongside 5 GCSEs at grades A-C or a related level 2 BTEC qualification. You should be very enthusiastic about exploring a wide range of artistic and technological techniques and ideas. This course is designed for individuals with a genuine interest in mixing new technology with traditional techniques to create interactive outcomes.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
BTEC Level 3 courses are equivalent to 3 A-levels and are valued by employers and Universities. Throughout the course you will learn and use a variety of transferable skills. These skills are in great demand and allow you to access a wide range of possible career and higher education opportunities. You should have a genuine interest in the Creative and Media industries and be aiming for progression in these areas.

PRIESTLEY EXTRA
As well as working in the studios you will be encouraged to participate in professional workshops and research trips, both locally and abroad. Also as part of your course, you will take part in work experience and have the opportunity to get feedback from industry professionals. You will also have the benefit of being able to talk to visiting speakers from universities and from industry about progression.
