BTEC
Level 3 in Production Arts
WHY
TAKE THIS COURSE?
This course is designed for students who have an interest in what goes
on behind the scenes in theatre and all of the different production
elements involved. It is a mix of practical classes with some theory
and suits students who are willing and eager to get hands on with performance
projects and events as a member of a production team.
WHAT
WILL I STUDY?
Core areas of study include; Assistant Stage Management, Production
Planning, Production for Theatre Performance and Production Arts Workshop.
In addition to this, the course includes a wide range of other units
which vary from more technical units such as Stage Lighting Operations,
to craft and building units like Scenic Construction for the Stage.
HOW
WILL I BE ASSESSED?
The assessment is a combination of in-class practical assessments, written
and design-based portfolio work and larger scale assessments where students
are assessed on their practical and organisational input into live performances,
including full-scale musical theatre shows, Drama exams and Music gigs.
WHAT
SKILLS AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED?
There are no set qualifications required to take this course other than
the College’s entry criteria. However, an interest in theatre
is essential, as well as a willingness to input extra time after College
and outside of lessons.
WHAT
CAN I DO NEXT?
Studying Production Arts is a stepping stone towards further study of
theatre at Drama School or University. Many of our students have continued
along this road taking higher education courses in stage management,
theatre technology, theatre or film production and events management.
Students have also been able to step straight into employment after
leaving College, working for companies or on events, making use of their
production experience.
