WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?
This course examines the seven sectors; justice, defence, business, central and local government, health, administration and finance, and general public sector management. The course will provide you with an insight into the many rewarding careers within these sectors. You will cover the principles and values underpinning all of the different professions. You will also learn how the different services work in unison to develop, maintain and protect society.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?
The course is modular, which means that you will build up a series of assignments throughout the two years. You will be continuously assessed throughout the course through a combination of internal assignments and case studies. Two units are externally assessed with short written answer papers. The units you will study over the two years are Public Services and Collaborative Working, Community Engagement and Partnership Working, Accountability and Funding for Public Services, Leadership in Public Services, People Management and Public Service Values, and Marketing Public Services.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
The qualification is assessed by coursework and examinations. You will be expected to complete assignments during the year that may include written tasks, practical activities and presentations.

WHAT SKILLS AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED?
You will need to be a person who is willing to actively participate in a range of activities, and is also prepared to lead a team on occasions. You will need a real interest in a career in one of the public sector organisations, and also be organised and able to meet deadlines. You will need GCSEs in Maths and English at grade C or above to join this course.

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
Upon completion of this course you will be well prepared to apply for a position in your chosen public service, or apply to continue your study in Higher Education. Higher Education courses that students may progress onto include Public Services, Policing, Criminology, Law, Sociology, Sport, Outdoor Activities and Criminal Justice.

PRIESTLEY EXTRA
To further your experience, you will have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities organised by your tutors including Police and Fire Service visits and personal activity days with the Army, RAF, Navy and Royal Marines. You will also undertake a two week work placement with a public sector organisation such as the local council.
