HIS talents mesmerised a billion people when he performed during the opening ceremony of the London Olympics.
But A Level Dance students from Priestley College enjoyed a closer look at the skills of Akram Khan when they saw him perform live in DESH at Sadler’s Wells Theatre, London.
Dance Tutor Rachel Leyland said the 20 students found the visit inspiring.
“One of them said she had never been inspired like that before and that it had totally changed her outlook. The students had a great time and were a real credit to the College.”
Award-winning Khan – who choreographed and performed a section of Danny Boyle’s memorable showpiece – brings his unique dancing style to DESH, an exploration of his British/ Bangladeshi heritage.
Priestley students were dazzled by the theatricality and movement within Khan’s performance. They will now incorporate his style into their own work.
“He has this immense speed, which is part of his style,” said Rachel. “Our students will now use this as inspiration for solo pieces, which they have to dance in the style of a practitioner.”
