A BROADWAY star shared the secrets of his success with Priestley’s aspiring performers during a workshop in New York.
More than 30 Media and Performing Arts students met Adam Kaplan during the annual New York trip, which aims to inspire them to even greater achievements.
“It is an inspirational trip with the workshops being extremely educational as well,” said Head of Performing Arts Sarah Graham.
“Much of what they were told reiterated the work we do in college, but to hear it from a Broadway actor was really powerful and also a lot of fun.”
Adam was a finalist in the Next Broadway Sensation competition and is currently performing in Broadway hit ‘Newsies!’
His workshop explored acting techniques that are required to ‘make it’ in musicals.
Priestley’s travellers also watched Newsies! which was a double winner at the 2012 Tony Awards® for Best Score and Best Choreography.
NEWSIES combines explosive music, high-energy dance and an inspiring New York success story to create a musical you don’t want to miss.
“It was a chance for everyone to see the standards that are required to put on a Broadway show,” said Sarah.
“Something they all took away was that the most important part is acting, even when you are singing”
A second workshop during the five-day trip saw the students produce a short film working alongside experts from an American company.
There was also time for sightseeing with visitors to the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Central Park and the World Trade Centre.
