TWO students have completed the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award in their first year of college.
Gabriella Leon, 17, and Alex Heywood, 18, are now focusing on securing Gold before finishing their studies at Priestley.
Head of Sport Nigel Howells, who oversees DofE at Priestley, said: “Gabby and Alex are both looking to complete their gold award while at Priestley, which would be a huge achievement.”
Priestley is an established centre for the Duke of Edinburgh Award – the world’s leading achievement award for young people – so can independently run gold, silver and bronze programmes.
The DofE’s goal is to create a world where young people can reach their full potential whatever their circumstances.
Former Cardinal Newman pupil Gabriella, from Appleton, volunteered at a ballet school, completed her physical challenge in badminton and her skills test in tap dance to secure silver.
Alex, who is from Gorse Covert and attended Birchwood High, volunteered as a young leader at the scouts, finished her skills test at Cheshire Martial Arts and a physical challenge of securing her 3rd Dan black belt.
Both completed an expedition in the Lake District.
