Thank you for expressing an interest in the NCTJ Level 3 Journalism course. As this course requires a considerable amount of independent work, research and personal confidence, all applicants are required to complete and submit these two pre-enrolment assessments by 24th June.
1. Record a short introductory video
Record a short video introducing yourself and why you have chosen to take the course. This should be shot in landscape using your phone and framed in a manner that shows your face clearly. Audio also needs to be clear. You can use any additional equipment such as tripods or editing software to make it look professional.
This task is checking your confidence in front of camera which will be assessed within a module entitled “Using video to tell a story”.
2. Write a news story
To research, report on and write a 300-500 word news story. Your story must be written in in the style of a broadsheet newspaper article and include direct quotations from one interview source. This cannot be a family member or close friend.
This task allows you to show the necessary skills required for most modules including, “How to tell a news story” (a mandatory module), “Feature Writing” and “Gathering Information” to name a few.
Hopefully these tasks will be enjoyable for you and a chance for you to show the skills you have perhaps already developed so far. Your goal is to show your passion and motivation for taking this subject and we are not expecting professional quality!
