What you will need to study this course

  • interest in programming and software development as a career
  • minimum requirements for a Level 3 course
  • minimum GCSE Maths grade 5

What you will study

Core Content – problem solving, programming, emerging issues and impact of digital, legislation and regulatory requirements, business context, data, digital environments and security.

Occupational Specialism – the SDLC of Analysis, design, implement and test software as well as looking at tool and techniques to maintain and support software, working collaboratively, evaluate sources of knowledge and work within legal and ethical constraints.

Industry placement of 50 days.

How you will be assessed

Core Content: two exams and an externally-set project

Occupational Specialism: externally assessed project where you will be required to analyse a problem and design a solution, developing a prototype and gathering feedback to inform future development.

Successful completion of your industry placement.

Priestley Extra

Enrichment activities such as Apps for Good and First Tech Challenge. Visits from organisations offering apprenticeships including Barclays Bank and other local apprenticeship schemes.

Progression

Degree apprenticeship or a degree such as Software Development or Computer Science. Skilled employment within the software development sector.

Education and Childcare T-Level

Reasons to study this course

  • T-Levels are designed to give you the technical skills and knowledge required to secure high-skilled employment, a higher apprenticeship or higher level study at university.
  • These courses have been developed in consultation with employers, higher education institutions and professional bodies.
  • This is a full-time programme and success will help students progress to university or careers.

What you will need to study this course

  • clearance DBS application
  • achieved a grade 4 or above in Maths and English, if you are planning a career in Teaching you will also require a grade 4 in Science
  • organised and good time management skills
  • reading and research skills
  • ability to work independently

What you will study

Core modules consist of Child Development, Supporting Education and Working with Other Professionals. Other units look at Safeguarding, Observing and Assessing Children and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Within this course you will have three days in college and two days on placement.

How you will be assessed

Exams, employer-set project and a portfolio of synoptic assessment of skills in the sector.

Priestley Extra

Various trips such as a residential in London where you will visit The Children’s Museum. Trip to Disneyland Paris. Visits to universities to explore their Early Years and Health-related degrees as well as a tour of their campus, taking part in lectures and finding out other general information.

Progression

You can gain employment in a number of specific careers within the Health, Education and Early Years Sector as a qualified practitioner or, alternatively, you may wish to progress to university to study Social Work, Primary School Teaching, Nursing and other children and early years-related degrees eg. speech therapy.

Engineering T-Level (Design and Development)

Reasons to study this course

  • This T-Level is a route into skilled employment and the equivalent to three A-Levels.

  • Combine classroom theory, practical learning and a significant industry placement.

  • This course focusses on the design and development aspect to engineering. It is more theoretical than practical, giving you an an understanding of how materials, conditions and context influence design processes and products.

 

  • Gain essential mathematics for engineering and manufacturing – a knowledge and understanding of mathematics including standard matrices and determinants and standard trigonometry.

 

  • Develop business, commercial and financial awareness – basic commercial principles including commercial priorities and markets, customers/clients/partners and resource allocation

 

  • Discover more about materials and their properties – understanding material processing techniques and their effects on materials and material quality, the condition of materials, how these are managed, and materials testing methods and techniques

 

  • Students will be seeking to progress to an engineering career and would like to start now with a substantial industry placement alongside classroom learning about workplace procedures and the maths and physics based knowledge and skills of engineering practice.  
     

What you will need to study this course

  • A desire for progression onto an engineering career through apprenticeship or University.

  • minimum GCSE Maths grade 6

  • minimum GCSE Physics/Science and English Language grade 5

What you will study

Core Content – maths, physics to support materials, mechanical, electrical, electronic and chemical engineering and business engineering to include manufacturing processes, health and safety, quality assurance and commercial awareness.

Occupational Specialism – Electrical and Electronic design bringing together your knowledge to design an electronic solution to a manufacturing problem eg an automated parcel sorting conveyor.

Industry placement of at least 45 days.

How you will be assessed

Core Content: 2 exams and externally-set project (17 hr controlled assesment)

Occupational Specialism: practical assignment (34 hr controlled assesment)

Priestley Extra

Visits to local industry to increase understanding of engineering in the workplace. Students undertaking engineering courses have also taken part in hands-on practical activities at local Universities. Industrial cadets competition – work with other STEM students and an engineering company to complete an engineering project.

Progression

A degree apprenticeship, university degree or skilled employment. An exciting career in the engineering sector.

You will have the opportunity to attend talks from visiting experts and guest speakers covering topics such as regulations and the cultural needs of patients. We host an NHS careers day, enabling you to speak to various NHS professionals about the careers paths and the different specialisms that exist within the NHS. Visits to various universities will take place to explore their health-related degrees as well as a tour of their campus, taking part in lectures and finding out other general information.

Progression

Studying the T-Level can lead to a number of careers. You can progress onto university to study nursing, midwifery, paramedical services, therapy, physiotherapy, rehabilitation services, dentistry, healthy lifestyle advisors and mental health.
