Ryan realised very early into his time at Priestley that his goal was to become a sport physiotherapist in sport.
In 2009, he was accepted onto a BSc Physiotherapy course at Leeds Metropolitan University, undertaking a three-year degree which included numerous work experience placements both in Sport & the NHS, based around the core modules of musculoskeletal, neurology and cardiovascular physiotherapy.
These experiences gave him unlimited career choices post graduation and he opted to practice within his favored environment of sport.
“Since graduating in 2012, I have taken on numerous roles in sport,” he said.
“I started as the assistant physiotherapist at Lancashire County Cricket Club to 1st Team Physio at Notts County Football Club and is currently with The Nike Academy based at St George’s Park National Football Centre.
This allows me to work with some exceptionally talented young international football players, who are relentless in the search for a professional contract.”
Although it can be an extremely challenging and a high-pressure environment, it is increasingly fulfilling and rewarding knowing I have contributed to the team, which hopefully accumulates with a positive outcome during competition.
Working in sport does not wait for anyone, and you have to be pro-active, fast thinking and driven to cope with the daily demands, however if this is your career choice, then opportunities will present themselves and you’ll have a stimulating career and future ahead.
I look back fondly on my time spent at Priestley College as it has shaped my career and allowed me to progress to my current position. I made the right choice for me and would recommend Priestley College Sport to everyone.”
