Priestley wins Cheshire College’s Cup

College Cup winners webPRIESTLEY won the John Sleigh Cheshire College’s Cup defeating West Cheshire 2-1 in a pulsating final at the King’s School in Chester.

Bradley Parker’s second goal, deep into the second period of extra time, sparked mass celebrations amongst the Priestley teammates.

Captain and former Penketh High pupil Liam Turner, who studies a BTEC Sport Performance and Excellence at Priestley, said the team had been spurred on by a determination to win the cup after narrowly missing out on the North West Colleges League play-offs this season.

“As a team it has taken time to gel, but we have improved considerably,” said the 18-year-old.

In the quarterfinals Priestley defeated South Cheshire College and in the semifinals Sir John Deane’s were their victims.

Vice-captain Andy Williams, who also went to Penketh, said: “The college’s Football Development Programme has really helped me as a player and the team worked hard to deliver a performance that our coach Rich Donnelly said we were capable of producing.”
