Unilever and NHS speakers discuss ICT

PRIESTLEY’S ICT students have benefitted from talks by two industry experts.

Waheed Malik, Director of IT at Unilever, and Pam Williams, who works for the NHS, visited the College to discuss their line of work.

“These kinds of visits are crucial for the students to help them see how what they are studying at Priestley relates directly to the real world,” said Tutor Linda Seymour.

Waheed discussed management information systems and systems development at Unilever with A Level ICT students and some BTEC learners.

He discussed how Unilever use data to monitor product patterns and sales and explained how this information was analysed.

“There was a strong business element to it and he was a good speaker,” said Linda.

Pam Williams, a clinical nurse educator with the NHS, has visited Priestley College several times.

She spoke to more than 50 students about how the NHS uses IT, focussing on the journey of the patient and how ICT is linked to their experience.

“ICT and healthcare is part of the exam so it was a valuable opportunity for all the students,” said Linda.
