Information for Adult Learners
We have put together a list of useful dates, information on safeguarding as well as community events. We keep this page updated with all latest news and details. Click here
We have certain expectations about your attendance, this is as much for your sake in achieving your goals but also for the planning of the course.
1) You are expected to attend every session of your course.
2) If you are unable to attend a session, you should phone or email the Adult Education Manager or your tutor directly.
3) If you miss two consecutive sessions without giving notice, the College will contact you to check your circumstances and whether you wish to continue the course. We will try to speak to you in person but if that is not possible we leave a voice message, text or email.
4) If you wish to withdraw from the course, please notify the College, giving reasons for your withdrawal.
5) If you miss three consecutive sessions without notice, you will be withdrawn from the course. If you wish to return you should contact the Adult Education Manager. Your tutor will then contact you to discuss the work you have missed and whether it is feasible to return and what additional support may be required if you do so.
6) If you know at the time of enrolment that you will not be able to attend every session, you must tell us immediately. Depending on the length of the course, and the number of absences you are planning, it may not be appropriate for you to enrol. In this case you will be signposted to an alternative course at a more convenient date wherever possible.
7) We cannot enrol you if you know at the time of enrolment that you will be unable to complete the course.
Car Parking (Main Site)
The car park is fully lit and monitored by CCTV. On certain evenings when the college is hosting performances or other events the main car park may be very busy, but you will be directed to overflow parking if necessary.
Bicycles (Main Site)
If you cycle to college you are advised to leave your bike in the designated shelter. Please note the College does not accept responsibility for any loss or damage to vehicles or bicycles parked on the premises or at any of the Outreach Centres.
Evacuation Procedures
In the event of a fire / emergency alarm leave via the nearest exit and report to your tutor at the front of college, near the pedestrian entrance to Menin Avenue. Do not leave the assembly point until told or move your vehicle in case this impedes access to the emergency services.
Smoking Or Vaping
Priestley is a No Smoking or Vaping campus.
Mobile Phones
Mobiles phones must be switched off in lessons. If you are expecting an urgent call please inform your tutor and have your phone switched to silent, leaving the classroom to deal with the call. Phones and smart watches are banned from exams and you could be disqualified if found in possession of such an item.
Personal Property
The College does not accept responsibility for loss or damage to personal property that you bring to College or an outreach centre. Lost property can be left at, or reclaimed from, reception on the main site or directly from the outreach centres.
Equality And Diversity
Priestley College is committed to equality and diversity and everyone who attends the campus or outreach classes will be treated with respect. All students can expect to be treated fairly and respectfully. Students are expected to treat everyone in college with respect, to report any incident of bullying and to make themselves aware of the College Charter.
We will seek feedback from you in the form of questionnaires and our Adult Learning Forum. If you have a complaint, or wish to appeal against any decisions we have made, you should initially raise this with the person concerned or, if you prefer, via another member of the Adult Team or the Adult Education Manager.
For more details see the College’s Complaints Procedure on the website. Student Council and College Council The views of students are represented to the College Management by the College Council.
