What do you consider the role of a Progress Tutor to be?
A main contact for students and parents for any concerns or worries they have during their time at college, Whether that is from a wellbeing pastoral aspect or they need further support academically. I can either help or give them guidance/advice on who can support them even further and what they can access in college.
What do you love about your job?
Building strong relationships with my students so they feel I am someone they can come to about any worries they have whether they are inside and outside of college. A person they can get their feelings off their chest to make them feel better. I love seeing students who may have struggled at the start or on part of their journey at Priestley and they become a wonderful student who thrives and goes on to do what they want with their future
How do you think the progress tutors make a difference to the students at Priestley?
We are a big part of a student journey through Priestley. We make a different impact on different students depending what needs they have or what support they need. Some students see me in PDP sessions and for 1-2-1 but are happy and content with the support they have; for some students they will see me in PDP and have a 1:1 on a weekly basis so for different students a progress tutor impacts them in different ways.
Why did you want to get into education?
I got into education as I wanted to share my passion with students and see them thrive and develop and watch them become an amazing young person all our students have inside them.
