A first cohort of adult learners have completed a new Mental Health Awareness course being led by Priestley College.
Among those who attended the sessions were an MFL teacher, a self-employed businesswoman with a holistic business and Adam Prescott who recently finished university.
Adam wanted to improve his knowledge further after completing a dissertation topic on mental health and how it can be impacted by grassroots football among men.
“The main thing of which I have learned throughout this course is understanding how mental health can impact people differently and that just because someone may seem fine one day does not mean that they are not struggling with their mental health,” he said.
The highlight of this course for me is developing knowledge around how to help people who may be struggling with depression or anxiety as these are the most common mental health issues, so gaining knowledge, resources and the ability to signpost to some significant charities has been really beneficial for me and hopefully I can use what I have learned to help people in the future.
