We were honoured to be joined by Falklands veteran Frank Leyland at today’s Remembrance Day Service, which was led by our wonderful Protective Services department.
Student Krystal Dawber laid a wreath on behalf of Frank and the 255 military personnel who served alongside him during the conflict, but sadly never returned home.
In his opening address, Colin Whittaker paid tribute to them and the servicemen and women who fought during the Second World War.
“We still owe a debt of gratitude to each and every one of them for having the courage to stand up and be counted when it mattered the most,” he said.
Huge thank you to everyone who took part in today’s service, for the respect shown by all students and for our neighbours who attended this important event.
Among those who led the service were students Lucy Simpson who read Flanders Fields and Lavinia Burcea who read the reply. Lt Commander Retired Sean Cameron for the Dedication, Nick Walker for playing The Last Post and Paul Mackinnon for his moving address.
In it, Paul spoke of the difference we can all make to one another on a daily basis.
“We don’t have to travel to the ends of the earth to earn our medals,” he said. “There is enough work for us to do here.”
