YOUNG photographers who focussed their talent on people and places they hold dear to them have been recognised in a national competition.
The four, who are all students at Priestley College, impressed in the London Metropolitan University FE Photography Competition: ‘Your People Your Places Your Things’.
First Year Della Moulton, who is studying Photography, Music Production and Product Design & Technology, was runner-up in the ‘Your Places’ category as well as being shortlisted in ‘Your People’.
Annie Boyne (People and Things), Hannah Whitlow (Places) and Harshita Prakash (Things) were all highly commended for their entries.
Their tutor Gemma Beech said: “All four have demonstrated their skills behind the lens so to achieve this kind of recognition is well deserved.
“It is so exciting for them to see their work showcased online and in print next to other talented young photographers from across the country.”
Judges in the fourth London Metropolitan University FE Photography Competition were photographers, lecturers and alumni.
They were impressed with Della’s work, which will now be published in the university’s BA Photography Socket Magazine. The work of all four of Priestley’s Photography students’ has also been featured in an online gallery.
Speaking about her entry into the Your People category, former Bedford High School pupil Della explained why she chose her image.
“I feel the lighting and shadows contrast nicely and allow for definition to be seen,” she said. “I also like how the reflection from the mirror is very clear and shows the emotion well.”
