Priestley College's Football Academy won both the first and second division of the North West College's League.
SPORT Priestley enjoyed a dominant season in football with both its first and second teams winning their North West leagues.
The firsts started and finished the season strong with wins against Rochdale and Cheadle Hulme to secure the first division of the North West Colleges’ League.
“The team included a lot of our first years, which gives us great hope for next year,” said first team coach Josh Greaves.
Priestley finished on 29 points – four clear of second-placed Clitheroe Royal Grammar School – winning nine matches and drawing two.
Captain Ellis Owens, who studies Sports Football Coaching & Development, said his teammates had really pulled together and fought hard as the season progressed.
“We have all built a relationship with good chemistry that has managed to get us the results on the pitch,” said the former Great Sankey High pupil.
The second team performed exceptionally well all season to secure their championship with a +68 goal difference. They finished on 34 points, seven points clear of Winstanley, with 11 wins, one draw and a loss.
Captain George Bellers credited the players’ consistent hard work for their resounding achievement.
“The dedication paid off as the season was convincing and we comfortably won most games,” said George, who also studies Sports Football Coaching & Development.
In an impressive season, Priestley reached the last 16 of the national cup and the final of the John Sleigh Cheshire Cup. They also won a regional seven-a-side tournament that qualified them to compete in the national finals.
