What do you consider the role of a Progress Tutor to be?
A holistic role in which all aspects of a student’s college life is looked at, from attendance and grades to wellbeing and support. As a Progress Tutor we can help students with almost any issue that they have, all while looking after their emotional, physical and social health.
What do you love about your job?
Being able to build a good rapport with our students and being someone they can rely on and come to in times of need. I enjoy being able to see students through the academic year, supporting them through the highs and lows, and watching them succeed on results day.
How do you think the progress tutors make a difference to the students at Priestley?
Progress Tutors are an essential part of a student’s experience at college. We support students through many different stages of their time with us, from their very first day, all the way to applying to Universities and Apprenticeships, and seeing them pick up their results at the end of their time with us. We make a difference due to our supportive and empathatic nature, that if a student’s own Progress Tutor is unavailable, another will happily step in to help students with no hesitation.
Why did you want to get into education?
I first got into education as a teacher, where I enjoyed seeing students develop and achieve in the classroom. Now working as a Progress Tutor, I love the pastoral side of education, where my priority is for students to be happy and safe, always being on their team and supporting them through their time with us.
