What do you consider the role of a Progress Tutor to be?
I consider my role to be a student’s support and guide during their time at college.
What do you love about your job?
I enjoy being a part of young people’s journey. This can be tempered with challenges that I can steer students through in order to witness their success.
How do you think the progress tutors make a difference to the students at Priestley?
I believe the majority of students appreciate having the pastoral support we provide. Some may need us rarely, others regularly, especially when college is a new, very different envoronment to High School, even the most resilienet students can feel overewhelmed. We provide support and guidance on numerous issues that students face during their time at college. We are the main point of call and support for 2nd year students applying to university, which to these students is the culmination of their education journey so far, so of utmost importance to them.
Why did you want to get into education?
I always wanted to be a teacher, to share my passion for my chosen subject and feel I was doing something that m,ade a differenvce to the lives of young people. Throughout my teaching career I was always commended for my pastoral care and thoroughly enjoyed my role as a form tutor, witnessing the growth and development of my students.
