Students from Priestley College’s High Achievers’ Programme travelled down to the University of Oxford’s as part of our annual Open Day residential. Staying overnight at Christ Church, Oxford was a real privilege and an invaluable opportunity for our students to experience university life first-hand.
Our High Achievers’ students enjoyed a visit to Oxford’s Pitt Rivers Museum, as well as paying a visit to our OxNet partners at Pembroke College. Students were taken back by the scenery of a variety of colleges, including Lincoln, Exeter and University College! At Priestley, our programme supports students in making an informed decision and building confidence in progressing to highly selective universities like Oxford, Cambridge and the Russell Group.
We engaged in sessions focused on Personal Statements, which are a key focus of our High Achievers’ Programme, as well as gaining additional insight into Oxford’s interviews and tutorial teaching.

I enjoyed the overnight trip to Christ Church, Oxford University for many reasons. The main reason why it impacted my decision on applying to specific colleges was the experience in living on-site for one day. I believe that this was an amazing feel for how a usual student studying at a college for the University of Oxford would typically live their day, excluding their tutorials. Another reason why I found the trip useful was the mock interviews provided information I did not know before, it changed my view on how different academic and career interviews are.
Aside from just the information given, the trip was also amazing. The view of all the Oxford colleges being very close to each other and how different they each felt was incredibly fun, I could not believe that outside of Christ Church was immediately Pembroke College. A few quick mentions for Pitt Rivers Museum and the shopping centre, both were very fun to explore.
