Sport Priestley honoured its athletes and scholars this week at its annual awards with guest speaker Olympian Beth Tweddle.
Ella Clifton-Stringer was named Sports Performer of the Year in recognition of her achievements in football, which included helping Wrexham Women’s FC earn promotion.
Team of the Year was the college’s netballers whose hard work in practice paid off on the court, culminating in them winning an U18s tournament in Paris.
The Warrington Foundation Volunteering / Community Sports Leader Award went to Lewis Groves who, in the last academic year, has volunteered over 190 hours of his time. He has coached in local schools, delivered assemblies and supported holiday camps as well as coached in a local gym.
Lewis leaves Priestley as a fully-qualified sports coach.
During the awards, Sport Priestley recognised athletes who have performed on the international level including a cyclist, tennis player, weight lifter and windsurfer to name just a few.
County and regional representation was acknowledged as well and the awards were also an opportunity to congratulate those performers who have excelled in their studies.
Beth Tweddle MBE – the first female gymnast from Great Britain to win a medal at the European Championships, World Championships and Olympic Games – presented the awards and gave an insight into her career and approach to sport.
