YOUNG photographers from Priestley College have seen their work published in a national online gallery.
The students’ work was selected after they entered the London Met’s Photography FE Competition. Annie Boyne and Freya Dunn were the first and second runners-up in the ‘Your Places’ category.
Annie secured another runner-up spot in the ‘Your Things’ competition while Hannah Cartlidge and Hannah Whitlow were shortlisted under ‘Your Places’.
All of their work will be published in the BA Photography Socket Magazine this year and their photos are available in the London Met’s online gallery.
“I am just really proud of the students receiving this kind of recognition from outside of college,” said Photography Tutor Gemma Beech.
Annie, who was also highly commended in the people category, is hoping to pursue a career in photography, but has not decided on university, apprenticeship or freelance work as her next step.
Her entries into the London Met competition included an image taken in a disused quarry in Menorca. The former Cransley School pupil was drawn to the location by the leading lines and the complex composition created by the stone maze.
In the ‘Your Things’ competition, she submitted an image inspired by her love of long exposure photography and experimenting with inanimate objects; in this case a shoe.
“The bright colours and shapes of Crocs have always interested me and so I wanted the lights behind to reflect that,” she said.
“I was also experimenting with different reflective surfaces to help give that commercial product photography style.”
Other Priestley students who were Highly Commended in the competition were Polly Birchall (People), and previous runner-up in the 2024 competition Della Moulton (People).
